Los Angeles Dodgers have best start in franchise history and are going for New York Yankees record

The current MLB champions are off to a perfect start to the 2025 campaign and have even made their best start to a season since the Dodgers franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1958, reaching seven consecutive wins after defeating the Atlanta Braves 3-1 at Dodger Stadium.

This seven-game winning streak matches that of a reigning championship team set by the New York Yankees in 1933. If the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Braves again on Wednesday, they will set a new record for a Major League champion. However, the best start to a season for the Dodgers franchise dates back to 1955 when in Brooklyn they won 10 games in a row.

Mookie Betts was the hero again in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ seventh win

The Los Angeles team sent Dustin May to the center of the diamond, who pitched six innings, struck out six batters and gave up three walks. But in the top of the third inning, a grounder by De la Cruz was mishandled by Mookie Betts, allowing Drake Baldwin to reach home to put the score at 1-0 in favor of the home team.

However, Mookie Betts, who went 1-3, did not fade away from a simple error and in the bottom of the sixth inning washed away his mistake with a home run taking Shohei Ohtani ahead to put the score 2-1 for the home team. In that same inning, Will Smith hit a single to center field which allowed Tommy Eldman to reach the plate and make it 3-1, which is how it would remain until the 27th out.

Los Angeles Dodgers relievers delivered against the Braves

After Dustin May’s departure, the first Angels reliever to take the mound was Anthony Banda, who hung the zero on the scoreboard and was the winning pitcher. The same situation with Alex Vesia, who struck out two of the three men he faced and finally Blake Treinen did the same in the eighth inning. The save was by Tanner Scott.

For the Atlanta Braves, it was starting pitcher Chris Sale who was credited with the loss with participation in five innings, but it was he who left the sixth inning with men on base and no outs. It was right-handed pitcher Pierce Johnson who allowed Mookie Betts’ home run.

This Wednesday, April 2, the Los Angeles Dodgers will look to set a new record for victories at the start of a season by a defending champion, and that record could be taken away from the New York Yankees.
