List of players who could leave the Chiefs along with Travis Kelce

The Kansas City Chiefs are still reeling from their Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, a game that left the team searching for answers after their three-peat hopes were dashed. With the offseason now underway, the Chiefs face a challenging road ahead, as several key players may not return for the 2025 season. As FanSided’s Kinnu Singh noted, “some of those players won’t return to the Chiefs for the 2025 season,” adding to the uncertainty surrounding the roster.

One notable departure could be Carson Wentz, who served as Patrick Mahomes’ backup during the 2024 season. While Wentz didn’t see much action-something that speaks positively to Mahomes’ health-his presence provided a reliable safety net. However, the quarterback market this offseason might make it difficult for Kansas City to retain him.

With a weak draft class and limited free-agent options, Wentz could find himself in demand as teams search for starting-caliber quarterbacks. While there’s no indication of dissatisfaction from either side, it’s likely the Chiefs will look elsewhere for a more financially viable backup option.

On the defensive line, Derrick Nnadi appears to be another player on his way out. A third-round pick in 2018, Nnadi has spent his entire career with Kansas City but struggled significantly in 2024. He saw limited snaps and was graded as one of the league’s worst defensive linemen by Pro Football Focus. In contrast, teammates like Mike Pennel and Tershawn Wharton, also pending free agents, were far more effective and heavily utilized. Given his diminished role and performance, it’s hard to envision Nnadi securing a new deal with the Chiefs.

Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason dilemma

Another disappointment was Joshua Uche, whom the Chiefs acquired from the Patriots at the trade deadline. The move initially seemed promising for bolstering Kansas City’s pass rush, but Uche failed to make an impact.

He played sparingly after his arrival and was ultimately a healthy scratch for most of the season, including during the playoffs and Super Bowl. Despite high hopes for his contributions, Uche’s lack of production made him a missed opportunity for the team.

As the Chiefs navigate critical roster decisions, it’s clear that this offseason will bring significant changes. The team must address these challenges head-on as they prepare for another shot at redemption in 2025.

And of course there is the case of Travis Kelce, who although he did not have his best season, after the loss to Eagles has left it a mystery whether he will continue one more year or retire.
