Lionel Messi is not only one of the greatest soccer players of all time, but he has also become the biggest magnet in North American soccer. Across the continent, forwards are choosing MLS not just for the money, but for the opportunity to share the field with the Argentine icon. That reality became even clearer after Inter Miami officially announced the signing of Mexican international forward Germán Berterame, a move directly influenced by Messi’s presence.

Inter Miami confirmed Berterame’s arrival from CF Monterrey, one of the most powerful clubs in Liga MX. At 27 years old, Berterame brings maturity, experience, and goals to a growing attacking group that already revolves around Messi. In a video released by the club, the striker didn’t hesitate to explain his decision: playing alongside Messi was the decisive factor that made the move inevitable.

Messi effect in Miami

Berterame arrives in South Florida after a prolific run in Liga MX, where he built a reputation as one of the league’s most consistent forwards. His ability to create space, finish inside the box, and press defenders made him a key figure at Monterrey, and those same qualities now fit perfectly into Inter Miami’s evolving identity.

Beyond tactics and statistics, this signing reflects a broader shift in MLS. Messi’s influence has transformed the league into a true destination for top level talent from Latin America and beyond. Players no longer see MLS as a final stop, but as a competitive stage where they can grow their careers, increase visibility, and compete for trophies and for some, share the locker room with Messi.

The club continues to surround Messi with proven goal scorers who can capitalize on his vision and creativity, while also easing the attacking burden over the course of a long season.

As Berterame begins this new chapter, his signing stands as further proof of Messi’s impact on MLS and world soccer. One player changed the league’s perception, and now, signing by signing, MLS is transforming right before everyone’s eyes.
