Lionel Messi’s breathtaking free-kick goal inspires Inter Miami’s comeback in epic draw

Lionel Messi was the hero for Inter Miami as the MLS team displayed remarkable resilience in their game on Saturday, battling back from a two-goal deficit to secure a thrilling 3-3 draw against the Philadelphia Union.

The match, highlighted by Messi’s stunning late free-kick, demonstrated the team’s fighting spirit and the Argentine superstar’s ability to change the course of a game in an instant.

Trailing 3-1 deep into the second half, Inter Miami’s hopes seemed dim against a dominant Union side.

However, a late surge ignited by Messi’s precise free-kick in the 87th minute set up a heart-stopping finale that left fans buzzing. The goal not only salvaged a point for Miami but also underscored Messi’s continued influence in Major League Soccer.

Messi’s brilliance shines through

With just minutes remaining, Inter Miami was desperate for a breakthrough. Messi stepped up to deliver a beautifully curled free-kick that sailed past the Union’s goalkeeper, reducing the deficit and reigniting the match.

This goal was Messi’s first of the game and showcased his signature finesse and calm under pressure.

The comeback momentum carried Inter Miami to another goal shortly after, leveling the match at 3-3 through Telasco Segovia in the 95th minute of the game.

This draw, though not a victory, reinforced Miami’s potential as a competitive force in the league and highlighted the importance of Messi’s presence both on and off the pitch.

The Union, despite surrendering their lead, showed their attacking prowess with an aggressive approach throughout the match. Their two-goal advantage in the first half set the tone, but Miami’s resilience prevented the visitors from closing out the game comfortably.

Beyond the scoreboard, Messi’s impact goes deeper. His experience and skill continue to raise the profile of MLS globally, attracting fans and players alike. This game added another chapter to his ongoing legacy in American soccer.

A tough season for Inter Miami

Messi, who will turn 38 in June, was met with a mix of applause and jeers during his return, but he quickly silenced the Union’s passionate fans as the final moments unfolded and Miami needed a hero.

Last season, Messi’s team set a new MLS record with a 22-4-8 regular-season record, earning the most points and the highest winning percentage in league history. Their four losses tied the record for the fewest defeats in a single season. However, this year has been a stark contrast.

“We’re coming off a period of bad results,” Messi said in a postgame interview with Apple TV after the Orlando match. “But we have to keep working and think about what’s next. With three or four games left in May, we (have to) finish the best possible way to be able to face the Club World Cup.”

Inter Miami will look to build on this spirited performance as they prepare for upcoming fixtures. Maintaining momentum and capitalizing on Messi’s leadership will be crucial for their aspirations this season. For Philadelphia Union, on the other hand, it will reflect missed opportunities and seek to tighten their defense to avoid similar comebacks in future matches.

The game was a vivid illustration of why Lionel Messi remains one of the sport’s most electrifying figures, capable of turning the tide with a single strike and inspiring his team to fight until the final whistle.
