Lionel Messi shared his time at Barcelona with a coach whom he himself described as “unique” and “the best of all.”

Between 2008 and 2012, the Argentine captain was under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, and together they won two Champions Leagues, among many other titles. However, not everything was rosy, and they had arguments, the reason for which Leo revealed.

Messi reveals what arguments he had most frequently with Guardiola

As he has demonstrated on multiple occasions, Leo is very attached to his family. This was not the real reason for the arguments with his coach, far from it, but rather the number 10’s desire to travel to Argentina and celebrate Christmas and New Year in his hometown, Rosario.

“I had, in quotation marks, ‘arguments’ with Pep because many times I didn’t want to or the dates didn’t work out,” Leo revealed in an interview with ESPN.

However, Messi quickly clarified that these differences between them did not interfere with their good relationship and explained how it motivated him to return to his country: “He always understood me, he let me go and gave me permission,” he said.

“For me, that was a boost because I came back with a lot more enthusiasm because I already had what I like: going back to Rosario, being with my friends and my family,” Leo added.

In addition, during the interview, the current Inter Miami captain praised Pep, stating that he learned a lot from him and that he greatly enhanced his game, even revealing that it was Guardiola who made him play as a false 9.

Meanwhile, Lionel is preparing to compete in the 2025 MLS Cup Final after winning the Eastern Conference title. Inter Miami will face Thomas Müller and the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, December 6, at Chase Stadium.
