Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?: Thomas Müller has no hesitation in choosing his favorite

Thomas Müller has once again taken sides in one of the most repeated soccer debates of the century: Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?

However, after losing the MLS Cup Final to the Argentine captain and Inter Miami, the Vancouver Whitecaps forward’s opinion gave people something to talk about. Who did he choose?

Müller doesn’t hesitate to choose his favorite between Leo and CR7

In an interview with ESPN that went viral on social media, Thomas was asked which of the two soccer legends he preferred.

“The good old question,” he said with a laugh. “Both of them. Both are performing. They’re still producing numbers,” the former Bayern Munich player began to explain.

However, he then opted for the captain of the Argentine national team: “For me, Messi is more impressive. Because his style of play is a little bit more magical, more pure talent,” said Müller.

“Ronaldo’s work ethic is outstanding and-maybe-even better than Messi’s, but to watch Messi playing our game is… It’s not unbelievable because I know what he’s capable of doing week in and week out, so for me it’s not unbelievable, but it is very impressive,” he added.

This is not the first time the German striker has defined which of the two players is better for him, but he confessed that his opinion has changed over the years. Weeks ago, upon his arrival in the MLS, he spoke with the official website of the competition and confessed that in his first ten years as a professional footballer, he ranked CR7 above Leo because of his voracity, discipline, and ability to maintain his performance.

However, over time, he said that his appreciation of the sport had changed and other aspects had become more important to him: “Now I’m a little older and a little more romantic. I like style more than pure efficiency, and in that respect Messi has always been unique. After he won the World Cup with Argentina, there’s no longer any debate: he’s the best player we’ve ever had in this sport,” he said.

These words were not taken lightly, as he is one of Leo’s biggest tormentors: they have faced each other ten times, with Müller winning seven and losing three (two international friendlies in 2010 and 2012 and a Champions League semi-final against Barça).

However, Leo’s defeats were more painful: among them, Bayern’s 8-2 victory over Barcelona and the 1-0 win in the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil. Before that, he had just won 4-0 with Germany against Argentina in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Meanwhile, Messi was able to break this streak on Saturday, December 6, at Chase Stadium when Inter Miami beat the Whitecaps 3-1 to become MLS champions for the first time in their history.
