Lindor teases Ohtani in Mets’ win over Dodgers: “They count the same”

The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets began a four-game series on Monday night in Los Angeles, a series that is considered a rematch of the 2024 National League Championship Series that Los Angeles won in six games.

Later, the Dodgers were crowned World Series champions and, in the offseason, added even more talent to their roster. While the Dodgers’ winter break was not as spectacular as last year, when they signed Shohei Ohtani, this offseason was key to strengthening specific areas of the team.

Players like Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki, who will join Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and eventually Clayton Kershaw, forming an elite rotation.

For their part, the Mets also restructured over the winter, highlighted by the historic signing of Juan Soto, as well as key players such as Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso.

In addition, this series has an additional incentive, as it will pit two of the top vote-getters for last season’s National League MVP award: Shohei Ohtani and Lindor, with the Japanese being the unanimous first-place choice.

Ohtani and Lindor shine in first game of Dodgers vs Mets series

Both players shone with home runs in the first game of the series. Lindor opened the game with a spectacular home run, while Ohtani also hit one in the seventh inning.

Both impressive hits, Ohtani’s reaching 424 feet and Lindor’s417 feet, Lindor joked with reporters that it was probably 40 feet longer than his, but that in the end they are worth the same.

“I hit it with everything I had. Not as far as Ohtani. Ohtani’s was probably 40 feet further than mine. But in the end, they all count the same,” Lindor said

However, Ohtani’s home run flew just seven feet further than Lindor’s, but it was Lindor’s Mets who managed to win 4-3 in extra innings, taking the first game of the series.

Who’s better, Ohtani or Lindor?

Venezuelan Francisco Alvarez snapped a four-week RBI drought with a double in the top of the 10th inning to lead the New York Mets to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. Despite Shohei Ohtani’s 23rd home run and his 427-foot homer to tie the score.

For his part, Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor also excelled with a home run early in the game and an RBI single in the 10th, helping the Mets to their eighth win in the last nine games, in the start of this rematch series of the National League Championship Series.
