Lexie Hull reveals toughest challenges of playing alongside Caitlin Clark

Last season was a definitive turning point for the Indiana Fever. Despite the fact that Caitlin Clark only suited up for 13 of the 44 regular-season games and missed the postseason entirely, 2025 stood as the franchise’s most successful campaign in over a decade. Pushing the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces to the brink in the semifinals proved that Indiana is no longer a “project”, they are a contender.

With Clark now fully healthy and the league preparing for a total takeover, evidenced by the Fever playing 39 of their 44 games in NBA-sized arenas this year, the front office is prioritizing continuity.

Indiana has officially extended a core qualifying offer to star guard Kelsey Mitchell and a restricted qualifying offer to forward Lexie Hull, essentially guaranteeing that the core rotation remains intact for the 2026 championship hunt.

Lexie Hull on Navigating the Scrutiny of the Caitlin Clark Era

Both Kelsey Mitchell (the 2018 No. 2 pick) and Lexie Hull (the 2022 No. 6 pick) have spent their entire professional careers in the “Circle City.” They’ve seen the lean years, and they know that with the healthy pair of first overall picks Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark, the ceiling is a WNBA Championship. However, playing alongside the most famous athlete in women’s basketball brings a unique set of challenges that don’t appear on a stat sheet.

Lexie Hull, widely considered Clark’s closest friend on the team, recently opened up in a FOX interview about the psychological weight of the “Clark Effect.” When asked about the toughest part of sharing the floor with No. 22, Hull pointed directly to the digital noise. “I think the most challenging part is there’s just so much scrutiny,” Hull admitted.

“People have opinions online, and unfortunately, that’s part of the job and the role that we play. We’re real people. I think when things get blown out of proportion, and when things get personal… that’s when it’s over the line.” Hull’s perspective highlights a growing reality in professional sports: the “job” now includes managing a 24/7 news cycle and social media toxicity.

While high-profile athletes across all leagues face this, the intensity surrounding the Fever is unprecedented for the WNBA. It’s a situation where team psychologists are becoming just as vital as athletic trainers, helping players differentiate between professional critique and the “inevitable” personal attacks that come with generational fame.

Which Player is the Indiana Fever Targeting with Their 10th Pick in the Draft?

With the WNBA Draft just around the corner on Monday, April 13, Indiana’s front office likely already has their target locked in. While the Fever have secured their veteran scoring, they may look to add an elite defensive edge. Enter Raven Johnson, the standout from this year’s National Champion South Carolina squad.

The reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year was instrumental in the Gamecocks‘ 2022 and 2024 titles, but she is best known to Fever fans as the defender who famously hounded Clark throughout the 2024 final. Johnson’s ability to pick up full-court and disrupt an offense’s rhythm is legendary.

Pairing the league’s most prolific scorer with her collegiate “stopper” would turn every Indiana practice into a high-intensity war zone. It’s a strategic move designed to ensure Clark is battle-ready for what many are predicting to be her revenge season, proving that iron truly does sharpen iron.
