Legend LeBron James adjusts his game with the Lakers ahead of his 23rd NBA season

LeBron James is about to begin his 23rd season in the NBA and his eighth wearing the Los Angeles Lakers jersey. At 39 years old, the all-time leading scorer understands that modern basketball demands adaptation, and for that reason, he has decided to modify his playing style to remain competitive.

For most of his career, James was the primary offensive option, carrying the responsibility of scoring and handling the ball. However, in recent years, the “King” has started to take on a more strategic and supportive role on the court, which now makes even more sense with the arrival of Luka Doncic in Los Angeles.

A more dangerous LeBron James off the ball

According to reporter Anthony Irwin of ClutchPoints, James spent this summer perfecting his off-ball game. The Lakers star has worked on improving his effectiveness in catch-and-shoot situations and strengthening his physique to dedicate more energy to the defensive end, knowing that Doncic will take on the primary offensive load.

The numbers support this evolution: last season, LeBron reached a 37.6% three-point shooting percentage, one of his best marks from beyond the arc. If he manages to consolidate this style, he could become the best secondary offensive option in the entire NBA-something that would greatly boost the Lakers in their pursuit of another championship.

Lakers and LeBron James: no plans for separation

Despite rumors of a possible trade, the Lakers’ front office has no plans to move James. According to Irwin, there is no deal on the market that would improve the team, and furthermore, LeBron holds a no-trade clause that gives him full control over any potential move.

General manager Rob Pelinka strengthened the roster this summer with players like Marcus Smart, Deandre Ayton, and Jake LaRavia, building a team designed to support Doncic and give LeBron a more flexible role.

LeBron James’ future beyond the Lakers

Tim MacMahon of ESPN reported that James and his camp are aware of how difficult it would be to execute a trade, given his $52.6 million salary and his ability to veto any deal. Even so, LeBron chose to exercise his player option and play this season with the Lakers before becoming a free agent next summer.

All signs point to this being LeBron’s final campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers. The “King” will then have the freedom to decide whether to continue his career with another team or bring his illustrious journey to an end. For now, his mission is clear: keep the hope of another title in purple and gold alive.
