LeBron James to the Warriors? Inside the secret plot to unite him with Steph Curry

LeBron James’ long-term future remains one of the NBA’s biggest mysteries. While the “King” is set to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers this season, what happens after 2026 is anyone’s guess-unless the Golden State Warriors have their way.

Despite turning 40 and entering his 23rd professional season, LeBron continues to defy age and expectations. Last year alone, he played 70 games and averaged 34.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game-numbers that rival his prime.

After the Lakers’ first-round playoff exit and weeks of deliberation, the four-time NBA champion exercised his player option to remain in Los Angeles for another year. Still, rumors swirl that his next step could be a reunion with his old Team USA buddy Stephen Curry.

Could LeBron and Steph finally team up?

According to The Stein Line insider Jake Fischer, Golden State’s front office has been pursuing a trade for LeBron for the past 18 months. Warriors owner Joe Lacob reportedly reached out to Lakers governor Jeanie Buss, but talks stalled without a deal.

Sources within the Lakers organization told Lakers Daily that the team isn’t interested in the players Golden State is offering-namely Jimmy Butler, who’s been plagued by injuries, and Jonathan Kuminga, whose performance has been inconsistent despite flashes of brilliance.

Complicating matters further, LeBron’s contract includes a no-trade clause, meaning he’d have to personally request the move. That seems unlikely, especially since he’s publicly stated his desire to stay with the Lakers-even after the blockbuster arrival of Luka Doncic.

Luka takes the reins in L.A.

The Lakers have made their intentions clear: it’s Luka’s team now. After signing Doncic to a massive three-year, $165 million extension, the franchise appears to have chosen its new cornerstone-leaving LeBron on the outside looking in.

Doncic is playing the long game, and the Lakers are following suit. Rather than chasing splashy trades, they’re opting to build around veterans on short-term deals-a strategy that contrasts sharply with LeBron’s win-now approach throughout his career.

What the King does next? That’s the million-dollar question.
