LeBron James shocks fans with explosive dunks at 40 as he trains for his 23rd NBA season with NBA

LeBron James isn’t slowing down if anything, he’s finding new ways to remind the basketball world that he’s built differently. At 40 years old, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is still gliding through the air, hammering down dunks that most players half his age would envy. In a recent Instagram video posted by NBA Master Trainer Chris Johnson, LeBron was seen throwing down one ferocious slam after another, moving with the same bounce and power that made him a household name two decades ago.

Johnson, CEO of JUSHOOP and a trainer who has worked with legends like Dwyane Wade and Tyrese Maxey, captioned the video: “No clock on the grind when you’re built for forever.” For LeBron, that phrase could easily be a personal motto. Year 23 is loading, and he’s making sure the basketball world knows he’s ready. LeBron’s relentless commitment to staying at the top of his game is obvious.

No signs of retirement as LeBron keeps chasing championships

What’s perhaps even more remarkable is that LeBron’s dominance isn’t limited to game nights. His off-season work ethic is legendary from weight room sessions to endless skill drills on the court. This isn’t a man playing out his final seasons just for the farewell tour. This is a competitor who still wants to win, still wants to set records, and still believes he can hang with the very best in the NBA. And the scary part for opponents? He keeps proving himself right.

For Lakers fans, that video was exactly what they needed before the season starts. The roster still has some question marks, and the West is stacked, but seeing LeBron in top shape changes the vibe completely. And now that Luka Doni is already in purple and gold arriving in February’s blockbuster deal and signing an extension with L.A. this month the optimism isn’t just preseason talk. With LeBron and Luka sharing the floor, the Lakers have a real shot at chasing another championship.

There’s also the unspoken storyline about retirement or rather, the lack of one. At 40, most NBA players are long gone from the league, their highlight reels fading into nostalgia. But LeBron’s not giving any clear signals about when he’ll call it quits. Every time the question comes up, he dodges it with a grin or shifts the focus back to the present. For now, all that matters to him is winning, competing, and enjoying the game he’s mastered for over two decades.

It’s not just about the numbers or the accolades anymore though LeBron’s stats still rank among the league’s elite. It’s about the passion that still burns every time he steps on the court. It’s about showing his kids, his teammates, and his fans that the grind doesn’t have an expiration date. Whether you’re a Lakers loyalist or just a fan of greatness, it’s hard not to be impressed by a 40 year old superstar still flying above the rim like it’s 2009.

If this is what Year 23 looks like before the first tip off, the NBA better be ready. LeBron James isn’t just chasing another ring he’s redefining what longevity in sports can look like.
