“The King” has done it again. LeBron James is no stranger to setting up his fans with a high-profile, high-budget setup for a major decision. The first one came back in 2010, then he went live in front of a national audience and made his choice to join the Miami Heat.
Although James said he regretted doing that, he was back at it this week with what he teased as “The Second Decision“. Giving just one day notice, James was set to make a major announcement on Tuesday at noon. Instead, it was an ad for his partnership with Hennessy. Fans were not too fond of the move, as he played with their emotions.

To be fair, James technically did make an announcement on his basketball future: he will be back for a 23rd season. He wasn’t going to miss No. 23, as it’s the number of his idol, Michael Jordan, after all. But as if fans weren’t displeased enough by being teased, James followed it up with a cheeky social media post.
James posted on X, quote-tweeting Hennessy’s video and putting three emojis: a winking face, a tongue-out face and a crown.
James even posted it before he said he would reveal it at noon eastern time. So not only did James string his fans along, he didn’t even do it at the correct time.
At the least, it was a great announcement for Los Angeles Lakers fans. James will be back in uniform for the upcoming season, as they chase a ring with Luka Doncic.
