LeBron James’ return sparks concern in Los Angeles: Will the King fit in with Doncic’s Lakers?

The Los Angeles Lakers have started the season strong, leading the Western Conference with a 10-4 record. Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves have been at the forefront of this success in LeBron James’ absence. But now, the “King” is set to return-potentially disrupting the chemistry built by head coach J.J. Redick and embraced by fans.

After a rocky preseason, the Lakers have improved with each game. Redick even stated that he likes “where the defense sits,” especially considering James hasn’t been on the floor.

The team’s center, Deandre Ayton, has stepped up defensively, protecting the rim while Doncic and Reaves shine on offense. However, some analysts warn that this balance could be short-lived.

James has missed the entire first month of the regular season while recovering from sciatica. His expected return in November could unsettle the delicate equilibrium Redick has cultivated.

Experts sound the alarm for Redick

Doncic’s role in the team’s future is unquestioned. The concern centers on Reaves, whose responsibilities may shift dramatically once LeBron returns. The fourth-year guard has flourished in James’ absence-but will that continue?

ESPN insider Zach Kram posed the critical question:

Can Reaves sustain his leap when James returns, and can a lineup with Doncic, Reaves, and James defend enough to win multiple playoff rounds?”

Meanwhile, player-turned-analyst Shaquille O’Neal expressed sympathy for Reaves, saying, “When the big man comes back, everything shifts back,” likening James to “O.G. coming back home.”

Colin Cowherd took a sharper stance, suggesting that if LeBron can’t accept that the Lakers now revolve around Doncic, he must “fall in line or leave.” He compared the situation to past transitions-from Kareem to Magic, Magic to Kobe, and Kobe to LeBron.

Where is LeBron now?

As fans and analysts speculate about LeBron’s reintegration into the team, the King continues his recovery-doing something few superstars would consider.

For the past few weeks, James has been training with the South Bay Lakers in the G League, participating in full-contact 5-on-5 practices. Insiders report that the 20-year veteran has looked sharp.

Following this progress, the Lakers have reassigned James to the main roster, where he is scheduled to join full practices. His tentative return is expected in the coming days.

The question remains: Can these new-look Lakers survive the return of their biggest star? Time will tell.
