LeBron James knew how to make his name an empire, his game a delight and his teams history. However, even though many NBA fans consider him almost perfect, he knows he is a human being.
King James is aware that seeking perfection is a path he would not take and that no one should go down. And he has said so on several occasions. This time, he didn’t hesitate to repeat it again, and we are sure he will do it as many times as he thinks necessary.
Rescuing an old video of his time with Miami Heat (where he was from 2010-2014), the NBA icon shared it on his official Instagram account through stories. Without any accompanying text in the post, the message is clear and direct: “You can’t be perfect. Don’t try to be perfect. It’s impossible, no one is perfect,” begins James.
Yes, even he knows that perfection simply doesn’t exist, we all make mistakes and we are all destined for it. The important thing for LBJ is how we pick ourselves up after a fall: “If you make a mistake, you have to live with it and you have to be able to, to grow from it. You can’t continue to make mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake… And then think that you’re going to be able to come back from that.”
“You’re only human, and humans make mistakes. But it’s the ones that learn from their mistakes and come back, that separates, you know, this humans that human” he concludes.
And this is not just a phrase, but summarizes the philosophy that he has maintained and to which he has been firmly attached. Knowing how to accept and not deny that we have been wrong and then learn from our mistakes is the key for James.
His reflection after the Playoffs
The Los Angeles Lakers‘ shocking elimination from the 2025 NBA Playoffs in the first round has sparked serious reflection, both internally and as a group. And King James is no exception.
Minnesota Timberwolves put an end to their journey, dropping the series 4-1. Faced with this, LeBron has come to the conclusion that the problem lay and lies in the lack of effective communication on the court.
Now, with JJ Redick‘s first season as head coach coming to an end, the offseason will be both a challenge and an opportunity. But they will undoubtedly need to pick their heads up and bounce back if they want to shine again as they are accustomed to. And learn from their mistakes, as James preaches.
