LeBron James names his favorite movies and fans aren’t buying it

When your life unfolds under a spotlight, on the basketball court and beyond, it’s nearly impossible to keep even your entertainment preferences private. For NBA superstar LeBron James, revealing his favorite movies has once again sparked an unexpected wave of fan reactions, ranging from admiration to disbelief.

In a recent video for the social platform Letterboxd, LeBron joined comedian Kevin Hart to share his all-time favorite films. His picks? Goodfellas, Coming to America, Gladiator, and the first two Godfather movies.

All are widely regarded as cinematic masterpieces, praised for their storytelling, performances, and cultural impact. Instead of choosing just four films, LeBron bundled the first two Godfather entries as a single pick, citing their continuity and legendary status.

While many agreed that his taste was impeccable, some fans were quick to question the authenticity behind those choices. On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), comments poured in with skepticism. One fan joked, “I promise u he didn’t watch any of these,” while another chimed in, “He’s only seen the trailers.” Others even dared LeBron to quote a single line from any of the movies, mocking past interviews where he struggled to do so.

This isn’t the first time LeBron’s cinematic claims have come under fire. Back in 2016, during the NBA Finals, he told ESPN’s Chris Broussard that he watched The Godfather Part II six times during the playoffs. But when asked to name a quote, he famously replied that there were “too many” iconic lines to pick just one.

Fans were quick to latch onto that moment, turning it into a running joke over the years.

The family’s real movie nights might look different

Interestingly, LeBron’s personal preferences don’t fully reflect his household’s movie tastes. His wife, Savannah James, has previously revealed that their family often bonds over horror films, not the dramatic epics LeBron listed.

According to her, watching scary movies together has become something of a James family tradition.

Even LeBron’s own favorite movie list has evolved over time. In a 2022 Q&A, he mentioned Friday and Wedding Crashers – a far cry from the heavy, dramatic choices he recently highlighted. That shift suggests that LeBron’s movie preferences might change depending on context or company.

Still, whether or not he’s truly watched all of the films on his list, one thing is clear: LeBron’s taste in movies, like his game, keeps people talking. And if nothing else, the conversation has reminded everyone that even legends aren’t safe from a little friendly fan trolling.
