LeBron James’ health, Lakers’ defense raise concerns before crucial Game 2

After a lopsided loss in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Los Angeles Lakers are already facing tough questions.

Saturday’s 117-95 defeat wasn’t just a stumble, it was a wake-up call for a team with championship aspirations.

Can the Lakers bounce back in Game 2

The Lakers jumped out to an early lead behind Luka Doncic’s hot start but were overwhelmed as Minnesota stormed back with a 38-point second quarter.

From that point forward, the Wolves controlled the pace, the boards, and most importantly, the scoreboard.

With Game 2 looming on Tuesday night, the pressure is on Los Angeles to respond, or risk falling into a 0-2 hole.

LeBron James, who was held scoreless in the first half and finished with just 19 points, admitted the team fell short in key areas.

“Obviously we gotta do a better job controlling the controllables, and I don’t think we did a good enough job after the first quarter,” James said after the loss.

“Giving up 21 threes, giving up 20-plus fast break points, second-chance points-those are some of the things that we can control.“

Though James is officially listed as probable, his recent health issues remain a topic of concern.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst noted that James is still dealing with a hip flexor strain, and there’s speculation he may have tweaked his groin late in the regular season.

“He might come out on Tuesday and he might have a triple-double,” Windhorst said.

“But it’s worth monitoring.”

Still, the four-time champion is determined not to let this moment slip away. With the window for another title narrowing,

James emphasized the importance of adjusting quickly.

“We gotta do a better job of closing the bodies, getting out on shooters… So we should be more than prepared for that on Tuesday night,” he said.

Despite LeBron’s leadership and Doncic’s firepower, the Lakers will need a more cohesive defensive effort and a stronger second-half performance if they hope to even the series.

Game 2 is shaping up to be a defining moment, not just for the series, but for a Lakers team that cannot afford another flat performance.
