LeBron James’ friend knocks Angel Reese off pedestal, gives bigger role to another Chicago Sky player

Kamilla Cardoso delivered a statement performance against the Dallas Wings, catching the attention of not just fans and analysts, but even close friends of NBA royalty. Cuffs The Legend, a prominent social media personality and longtime friend of LeBron James, voiced a bold take on Thursday night’s Sky-Wings matchup.

Cardoso, not Angel Reese, should be the franchise centerpiece, he argued. The viral moment came when Cuffs took to X to throw his weight behind the Sky‘s No. 3 overall draft pick.

“I know Angel sells tickets but it’s time to build around Cardoso,” Cuffs The Legend wrote.

That message sent ripples through WNBA Twitter. Cardoso, who had already been drawing praise for her size, interior presence, and defensive potential, made good on the hype by helping Chicago secure its elusive first victory of the season.

Cardoso seizes the moment while Reese shares the stage

This season has often revolved around Angel Reese‘s star power. The former LSU standout entered the WNBA with one of the largest followings of any rookie in league history, thanks to her collegiate dominance and fierce rivalry with Caitlin Clark.

The Sky, recognizing her ability to draw attention, leaned heavily into promoting her. And to Reese‘s credit, she hasn’t disappointed, recording double-doubles, leading the league in rebounds, and becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 500 points and 500 rebounds.

But against Dallas, it was Cardoso who shifted the narrative. After missing the first few games of the season due to injury, Cardoso is now healthy and making her presence felt.

She clogged the lane, grabbed rebounds with force, and contributed key points when the Sky needed them most. Her performance raised eyebrows among analysts who had been wondering when the 6-foot-7 center would fully assert herself in the pros.

Both Reese and Cardoso have what it takes to become cornerstones in Chicago. But if Cardoso keeps stacking performances like Thursday’s, the conversation around who the Sky should build around could shift quickly.
