LeBron James just resolved one of the biggest unknowns of this NBA offseason. By exercising the player option on his current contract, “King” James not only guaranteed a return for at least one more season with the Los Angeles Lakers but also a significant salary that will generously pad his bank account.

James’s primary reasons for returning to the Lakers are athletic. The 23-year veteran aims to add another ring to his already overflowing trophy case and believes the Lakers offer him the best chance to achieve it.

Rich Paul, CEO of Klutch Sports, has stated that James will be monitoring the Lakers’ new front office to ensure they are making the right moves to achieve a championship. But whether or not the team wins the title, LeBron will pocket $52.6 million, significantly increasing his overall career earnings.

How much has James earned in his NBA career?

Specialized sites like Spotrac report that James has earned a staggering $581.3 million in his playing career. In his rookie year alone, the “King” pocketed a not insubstantial $4 million with the Cleveland Cavaliers, while last year the Lakers paid him $48.7 million.

These moves prove that LeBron is not only one of the greatest players of all time but also a talented businessman. In a 22-year career, James has achieved an impressive net worth of $1.2 billion, thanks to lucrative endorsements and multiple off-court ventures

LeBron’s future

By exercising his player option, James has resolved his immediate future. However, once this contract expires in 2026, LeBron will become a free agent, opening the door for the highest bidder to secure his services, assuming he wants to return for another year.

As for his long-term future, insiders suggest his wife, Savannah, wants James to retire as soon as possible. However, the pursuit of another championship, whether he wins it or not, will likely weigh heavily on the King’s final decision.

What is certain is that once he retires, James will undoubtedly be one of the wealthiest athletes on the planet.
