Until recently, seeing Stephen Curry and LeBron James share an NBA court-outside of the U.S. National Team-seemed nearly impossible. But after the Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis swap and Kevin Durant’s rumored trade to the Houston Rockets, fans’ wildest dreams might finally come true.
Basketball lovers still vividly recall how LeBron and Steph dominated during the 2024 Paris Olympics, guiding Team USA to gold. Their seamless chemistry elevated an already elite roster into an unstoppable force.
At the time, imagining them together in the NBA felt like a long shot. Now? Not so much. Analyst Kevin O’Connor believes a deal sending James to the Golden State Warriors is “feasible,” especially in light of James’ recent contract decision and Durant’s likely move to Houston.
Could LeBron and Steph finally join forces?
On his latest podcast episode, O’Connor said one of the most intriguing possibilities that emerged after James exercised his player option with the Lakers is a multi-team trade that lands LeBron in Golden State.
“The LeBron and Steph relationship, LeBron’s past public comments-all of it makes this plausible,” he said.
O’Connor admits the logistics are tricky. For one, the Lakers don’t have cap space for Jimmy Butler, who would be Golden State’s primary trade chip. But he added: “If you really want to get crazy, you could say the KD-to-Houston deal involving Phoenix isn’t done yet. You could add a third or fourth team.”
In O’Connor’s bold scenario, three teams and seven superstars are involved:
“Phoenix wants Butler. So maybe you send LeBron and Bronny James to Golden State, Jimmy Butler to Phoenix, Kevin Durant to Houston, and Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks to the Lakers.”
LeBron’s L.A. future in question
James has remained quiet since opting into his contract, but his agent Rich Paul emphasized that LeBron wants every remaining NBA season to count. “The Lakers understand that, are supportive, and want what’s best for him,” Paul said.
While O’Connor’s trade sounds like fantasy basketball, Paul’s comments suggest LeBron is focused on adding a fifth title to his legacy-and if that’s not in L.A., then everything is possible, even a reunion with Curry.
