LeBron James has caused a major buzz in the NBA and the sports world, as the superstar guard could be going through his final season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Even though the Akron, Ohio native decided to pick up his $52.6 million player option with the Lakers for his record 23rd NBA season, his agent and longtime business partner, Rich Paul, made it clear that his client wants to compete for a championship now and not later.
That’s a big problem if, like analysts and inside sources have mentioned, the new owners of the Los Angeles team – Mark Walter, CEO and founder of TWG Global – are looking to built the franchise around superstar guard Luka Doncic, who’s 26-years-old and arrived to the team in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks back in February.
LeBron and Kobe playing together for the Lakers
Amidst the LeBron James–Los Angeles Lakers drama, a resurfaced video went viral in social media because of the emotional weight behind it that made NBA fans wonder about what would have been like to see Bron playing alongside Purple and Gold legend Kobe Bryant, who tragically passed away on February 2020.
The video is ESPN’s 2024 NBA Playoffs commercial, that immediately caught fire on social media for showing current star paired with legends of the past for each team represented in the playoffs. Two of those stars are James and Bryant, a dream line-up that any NBA team would have loved to have.
Other fantastic duos included in the video are Anthony Edwards and Kevin Garnett for the Minnesota Timberwolves, as well as legendary Bill Russell teaming up with superstar shooting guard Jayson Tatum for the Boston Celtics. Even the Nikola Jokic and Carmelo Anthony destroying defenses with the Denver Nuggets. One thing is for sure: fans would have paid great amounts of money to see those players live together.
Bronny James doesn’t get distracted with his father’s drama
Bronny James, LeBron James‘ oldest son and his teammate with the Los Angeles Lakers, has not let the drama with his dad and the franchise get in the way of his main objective next season: become a constant with the lineup lead by head coach JJ Redick.
“I said, ‘I have no idea what you’re talking about,'” Bronny James said with a grin Wednesday after practice with the Lakers’ NBA Summer League team. “I don’t really pay attention to that stuff. There’s a lot of stuff going around that I don’t pay attention to.”
The 20-year-old son of the top scorer in NBA history claims he doesn’t know what the future holds. “We don’t really talk about that much, but I think when stuff like that does come up, he just tells me to not worry about it, not even pay attention to it,” Bronny said. “Just lock in to what you have going on right now, and that’s what’s going to get me better and keep me focused. I think it’s good that he tells me not to pay attention to that stuff.”
