The 2025 Laver Cup arrives in San Francisco with Team Europe defending their title after Carlos Alcaraz sealed victory against Taylor Fritz last year. So how can you watch and who is playing?

The event once again brings together some of the biggest names in men’s tennis for three days of competition, this time on the western coast of the United States in the Bay Area.

The event runs from 19-21 September 2025 at the Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors in the NBA. Matches will be split across afternoon and evening sessions, concluding with the final singles encounters on Sunday..

How does the Laver Cup work?

The Laver Cup, first staged in 2017 and named after Australian legend Rod Laver, follows a unique team-based structure. Six players represent Team Europe, while another six form Team World, with captains selecting lineups strategically over the three days.

A total of 12 matches are scheduled – nine singles and three doubles. Each match uses the best-of-three sets format, with a 10-point tiebreak if a deciding set is required. Scoring escalates daily:

  • Day 1 matches are worth one point each.
  • Day 2 matches carry two points each.
  • Day 3 matches count for three points each.

The first team to reach 13 points secures the trophy. Every player must contest at least one singles match across the first two days, while no individual may play more than two singles matches overall.

Doubles rules also mandate that at least four players per team participate during the competition, ensuring a balance between established stars and emerging talents.

What is the schedule for the 2025 Laver Cup?

The action begins this Friday on September 19 as Team Europe, headed by Spain’s Alcaraz, takes on the rest of the world.

The current world number one will look to defend the championship he earned by stopping the USA’s Taylor Fritz, who is out for revenge.

Who is playing at the 2025 Laver Cup?

Alcaraz, as aforementioned, is leading Team Europe fresh off the back of his US Open win over Jannik Sinner. He also won the 2025 French Open too meaning that the man from Murcia has a taste for success this year.

He will partner up with Alexander Zverev (Germany), as well as Holger Rune (Denmark), Casper Ruud (Norway), and first-time participants Jakub Mensik (Czechia) and Flavio Cobolli (Italy) on behalf of Europe.

Together, they will go up against Team World, led by the USA’s Fritz, who is currently ranked world No.5 and the bronze medallist from the 2024 Olympics Games in Paris, France.

Alongside him and out for revenge on behalf of the world are Alex de Minaur (Australia), Francisco Cerundolo (Argentina), Alex Michelsen (USA), Joao Fonseca (Brazil), and Reilly Opelka (USA).

Where to Watch 2025 Laver Cup in the USA?

Team Europe is captained by Yannick Noah, with Tim Henman as vice-captain whilst Team World is led by Andre Agassi as captain, with Pat Rafter as vice-captain.
