The Laver Cup 2024 is set to take place in Berlin, and despite Rafael Nadal‘s withdrawal from Team Europe, the lineup remains packed with top-tier talent. Team Europe will feature Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, Grigor Dimitrov, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Flavio Cobolli, and Jan-Lennard Struff.
On the other side, Team World has also faced some last-minute changes, with Alex de Minaur and Tommy Paul pulling out just before the competition. Their lineup now includes Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Ben Shelton, Alejandro Tabilo, Francisco Cerundolo, and Thanasi Kokkinakis.
First day schedule
The tournament begins on Friday, September 20, at Berlin’s Uber Arena. The first match will see Casper Ruud of Norway face Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo. Later in the day, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas will go up against Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis.
The evening session promises more action with Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov returning to the Laver Cup to take on Chilean Alejandro Tabilo. The day will wrap up with a highly anticipated doubles match featuring Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev for Team Europe, who will face Team World’s Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton.
One of the key matchups to watch will be Casper Ruud versus Francisco Cerundolo. Ruud, who has an unbeaten record in the Laver Cup, will be looking to extend his streak, but Cerundolo, who earned his first Laver Cup victory last year, will pose a tough challenge.
Another intriguing matchup is Stefanos Tsitsipas against Thanasi Kokkinakis. Kokkinakis recently upset Tsitsipas at the US Open, which adds extra tension to their Laver Cup rematch. While Tsitsipas leads their head-to-head encounters, this could be another closely fought contest.
Grigor Dimitrov’s match against Alejandro Tabilo will also be one to watch. Dimitrov is returning to the Laver Cup for the first time since 2018 and will face the Laver Cup newcomer Tabilo.
The two met earlier this year at the Miami Open, where Dimitrov secured a hard-fought three-set victory. Finally, the doubles match featuring Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev against Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton promises to be an exciting showdown. Alcaraz is making his Laver Cup debut, while Fritz and Shelton both have strong Laver Cup records from previous editions.
