Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson to receive prestigious honor from South Carolina Gamecocks

The Las Vegas Aces’ 101-77 victory over the Golden State Valkyries wasn’t the only reason for A’ja Wilson to celebrate.

During the game, the 28-year-old center had an excellent and remarkable performance: in 29 minutes of play, she had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. She also recorded two assists, one block, and four steals. She was the team’s third-highest scorer, behind Jackie Young with 20 and Jewell Loyd with 27.

This victory not only marked their fifteenth win, but it was also revenge after their crushing 58-111 defeat to the Minnesota Lynx. But it also came with great news for Wilson.

Wilson to be honored

The South Carolina Gamecocks announced that A’ja will be inducted into the school’s 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame class.at an induction ceremony on October 23.

This was announced on their official X account, formerly Twitter, in a statement. They also announced that Wilson will be joined by five other athletes who will be recognized during the football game against Alabama Crimson Tide on October 25.

The truth is that this tribute is no coincidence, nor is it the first she has received. The seven-time All-Star was part of the Gamecocks from 2014 to 2018 and in 2017 led the team to its first national title in history. She also participated in the three SEC regular season titles they won and the four SEC Tournament championships, which, to add to the fascination, were consecutive.

The team retired her jersey and created a bronze statue in 2021, so including her in the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame is yet another achievement, but not just any achievement.

Currently with the Aces, Wilson averages 21.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game. She is now preparing for what will be the Valkyries’ rematch on Wednesday at Chase Center.
