LaMelo Ball wants to start winning consistently with the Charlotte Hornets, and he hopes that he can get a lot of help on the offensive side with the arrival of guard Colin Sexton.
Considered one of the more under-the-radar moves of the NBA offseason so far, Sexton has averaged 18.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 29.9 minutes per game across 407 total appearances, with 335 starts.
The former Cleveland Cavaliers and Utah Jazz player told the Charlotte media that he’s excited for the new opportunity that he sees as a new beginning with the Hornets, and that he hopes to be a leader right away and help the team in any way possible to win.
LaMelo Ball turns heads with a wild outfit
The Charlotte Hornets beat the Utah Jazz 111-105, with the rookie forward Liam McNeeley leading the team in scoring and rebounding totaling 22 points and 12 rebounds. The former UConn standout also showed his range, shooting 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.
But it was somebody else who stole the show for the Hornets, and the person didn’t played during the game: none other than superstar shooting guard LaMelo Ball, who arrived late to Charlotte’s Summer League matchup in Las Vegas, but his outfit made sure no one missed him.
Dressed head-to-toe in bright pink, LaMelo lit up the sideline. With Vegas hitting 109 degrees outside, the pink jacket-and-pants combo raised eyebrows. Still, Ball looked unbothered courtside, leaving fans wondering how powerful the arena’s AC really was. Whether it was a nod to new kicks or just classic Melo flair, the outfit instantly went viral. On a day meant to spotlight rising stars, it was LaMelo’s fashion that ran the court.
Colin Sexton provides a spark in the offense
Colin Sexton averaged 18.4 points on 48% shooting – a career-high 40.6% from 3-point range – 2.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 0.7 steals in 63 appearances (61 starts) this past season, his third in Utah and seventh overall in the NBA.
Originally drafted eighth overall out of the University of Alabama in the 2018 NBA Draft, Sexton spent his first four years in Cleveland before heading west as part of the Donovan Mitchell blockbuster in September of 2022, a move that took the league by storm.
Now entering his eighth NBA season, the energetic, outgoing Sexton also brings tremendous value as an experienced veteran leader, a role he will continue to excel in. “[I’ll be] showing the younger guys some of the habits that helped me get to year eight,” he said.
