Lamar Odom was reportedly arrested early Saturday morning after police say he was driving at more than 100 miles per hour and showed signs of impairment during a traffic stop shortly after 2:00 am.
Law enforcement reports allege the former NBA star was speeding, driving erratically, and later failed a series of field sobriety tests.
According to details obtained by TMZ Sports, officers were patrolling when a black SUV approached from behind at a high rate of speed. Police say the vehicle passed their cruiser and registered 106 miles per hour on radar, prompting them to activate emergency lights and sirens.
Officers allege that before pulling over, the SUV changed lanes without signalling and then activated turn signals without actually changing lanes.
Once stopped, police reported an “overwhelming odor of Marijuana emanating from the vehicle” and noted that Odom’s eyes appeared bloodshot and watery.
When asked about his speed, Odom allegedly told officers he was on the phone with his manager and was almost home.
TMZ reported that police then questioned whether he had recently smoked marijuana. According to the report, Odom initially said it was his passenger who was smoking a “little bit” of weed.
Officers say he then stated he “doesn’t really smoke” before clarifying that he “does not smoke marijuana.” He also denied drinking alcohol before driving.
During the stop, officers noted that Odom tried to engage them in conversation, asking how their night was going aside from him “driving like he was in ‘Back To The Future.'”
Police then asked him to step out of the vehicle. As he began to exit, officers claim he released the brake while the SUV was still in drive, causing it to roll briefly before he put it in park.
Officers describe sobriety tests and roadside statements
Police again asked Odom whether he had smoked marijuana at any point during the day. At that point, officers say he admitted he had smoked “hours, hours earlier,” estimating the time to be around 4:00 pm.
Before conducting sobriety tests, officers asked background questions, including whether he had ever suffered a traumatic brain injury.
According to the police report, Odom laughed and said he “had 12 strokes and six heart attacks and that he was poisoned at a brothel in Pahrump.” Officers then administered a series of field sobriety tests, including finger to nose, walk and turn, modified Romberg balance, and one leg stand exercises.
Police allege Odom showed multiple signs of impairment. They claim he swayed, lost his balance, started tests too early, missed heel to toe steps, stopped midway through exercises, and stepped off the line. The report also states that Odom displayed eyelid tremors throughout the testing.
Officers further allege that Odom failed to touch the tip of his nose on six attempts and estimated 30 seconds had passed when only 13 seconds had elapsed. After completing the tests, police told him they believed he was impaired and asked whether he would be willing to perform additional tests.
