Following his arrest on January 17, 2026 after getting caught driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) in his bloodstream, former NBA player Lamar Odom has officially entered into rehabilitation to reset and battle against addiction.

The news, provided by TMZ on January 28, claimed that he will receive professional help in a 30-day treatment program at the iRely Recovery facility in Los Angeles. This move clearly signals his commitment to a long-term health recovery over a short-term process.

A speeding stop in Las Vegas

The arrest occurred after the Nevada Highway Patrol pulled Odom over for driving more than 41 mph over the speed limit, allegedly clocking in at over 110 mph and failing to maintain his lane. According to police reports, at the time of the stop, officers noted a strong smell of marijuana coming from his car.

While Odom initially told officers he had not been drinking or using narcotics, he later admitted to smoking marijuana earlier that day. After failing sobriety tests, he was booked on a misdemeanor DUI charge along with driving more than 41 MPH over the limit, and improper lane change charges. He is currently scheduled to appear in a Nevada court on March 17, 2026.

Odon’s decision to ask for help

It was his manager, Gina Rodriguez, who announced that Odom had made the decision to enter a 30-day treatment program at the iRely Recovery facility in Los Angeles.

“After a recent incident, he took a step back to reflect and address triggers he’s been dealing with. He’s taking full responsibility and choosing to be proactive about his well-being

According to TMZ, during the stop, Odom even remembered the night he nearly died, when he suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks and that he was poisoned at a brothel in Pahrump.

In recent years, Odom tried to move into a role of advocacy, even launching the Odom Wellness Treatment Centers to help others struggling with the same demons he has been fighting against. This latest arrest underscores the reality that recovery is not a destination, but a continuous, often difficult, journey.
