Lamar Jackson trade rumors grow as Ravens face cap and playoff crisis

While the Baltimore Ravens’ chances of reaching the playoffs are slim, with elimination emerging as the most realistic scenario in Week 17, the concerns do not end there. They also extend to Lamar Jackson and his $74.5 million contract, a figure that places the franchise in a difficult position against the salary cap over the next two years.

With the prospect of an extension that could reach $60 million per year, the option of a trade is gaining momentum, and two destinations have begun to emerge as potential landing spots: Miami and Las Vegas.

According to recent reports, including analysis from Mike Preston of The Baltimore Sun, Jackson – who holds a no-trade clause and controls his own destiny – has two teams on his radar: the Dolphins and the Raiders.

Would the Raiders be the ideal path for Jackson?

In Preston’s view, the Ravens should consider a trade that would allow them to ease their financial burden.

The Ravens should look at possible trades, which could net them two or three first-round picks. Jackson would love to play in Miami, where quarterback Tua Tagavailoa is no longer the starter.

Preston wrote in his column.

However, Las Vegas presents a significant appeal in the figure of minority owner Tom Brady, who has previously shown admiration for the two-time MVP’s talent, as well as his commercial and strategic value within the organization.

Jackson is expected to make $74.5 million in 2026 and 2027, which would make him the highest-paid signal-caller in the league. But here is a suggestion for Baltimore: maybe it should call in former Ravens greats like middle linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Rod Woodson, who played 17 years, to speak with Jackson about extending his eight-year career.

Preston added.

According to multiple reports, Las Vegas would hold an advantage due to its salary-cap window, with $104.9 million in available space for next season. However, beyond the financial aspect, the Raiders would also need to give up at least two or three high draft picks, which could work against the long-term direction of the team.

Has Jackson fully recovered from his injury against New England?

During the Week 16 game, Jackson suffered an injury after taking a knee to the ribs and back area before halftime, forcing him to leave the field. Initially, there was optimism that he could return, but that did not happen, and now all eyes are on his status heading into Saturday’s matchup against the Packers.
