Lamar Jackson left Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs midway through the third quarter, forcing the Ravens to turn to backup Cooper Rush in a game that quickly unraveled.
The Chiefs dominated from start to finish, cruising to a 37-20 victory.
Jackson’s final snap came at the 8:10 mark of the third quarter, when he was sacked for a two-yard loss. Though initially listed as “questionable” to return, he never re-entered the game. Cameras showed him on the sideline with a wrap around his leg, standing with teammates, but no longer under the care of trainers.
Before exiting, Jackson had completed 14 of 20 passes for 147 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while also adding 48 rushing yards on six carries.
Rush came out to the rescue
Jackson’s absence left Baltimore scrambling. Rush, the 31-year-old veteran in his first season with the Ravens, took over late in the third quarter but couldn’t mount a comeback.
Rush has carved out a steady career as a backup – entering 2025 with a 9-5 record as a starter – but his limited time Sunday wasn’t enough to slow Patrick Mahomes and the reigning AFC champions.
The Ravens are crossing their fingers awaiting Lamar’s diagnosis
The injury leaves Baltimore with tough questions moving forward. Beyond Rush, the team has Tyler Huntley on its practice squad. Huntley, once Jackson’s understudy in Baltimore, has bounced around the league in recent years, most recently going 2-3 as a starter for the Miami Dolphins in 2024.
For now, the Ravens await clarity on Jackson’s status. But if the hamstring issue lingers, their season could quickly be in jeopardy.
