Lakers offering fans the chance to “sit with the stars” during the playoffs

For nearly half a century, sitting courtside at a Los Angeles Lakers game has been less about buying a ticket and more about belonging to an inner circle. That long-standing exclusivity is now being carefully expanded, with the franchise offering fans a rare opportunity to step closer than ever to the action during the playoffs.

The Los Angeles Lakers announced the introduction of “Courtside Reserve,” a new second-row, on-floor seating option at Crypto.com Arena. It marks the first time in decades that additional courtside-style seats have been made available, breaking a tradition that has defined the franchise’s game-day NBA experience since the late 1970s.

Floor seats at Lakers games have effectively been unavailable for new buyers for generations, with the team confirming they have been sold out for nearly 50 years. That scarcity helped turn courtside into one of the most recognizable and sought-after vantage points in global sports.

A closer look at the Lakers’ new premium experience

The new Courtside Reserve section is designed to mirror the prestige of traditional courtside seating while offering a modern luxury experience. Fans seated in this area will receive in-seat food and beverage service, access to exclusive VIP spaces and a premium entry process intended to elevate the entire night.

The Lakers described the offering as an “immersive experience,” placing fans “in the heart of the action” within the arena’s most coveted section. It is a deliberate move that balances exclusivity with accessibility, giving a limited number of fans a chance to experience what has historically been reserved for celebrities and insiders.

Courtside seating in Los Angeles has long been synonymous with star power. Regular attendees have included figures such as Jack Nicholson, Denzel Washington and Leonardo DiCaprio, reinforcing the Lakers‘ reputation as the intersection of basketball and entertainment.

While pricing for the new seats has not been officially disclosed, the cost of proximity at Lakers games is already among the highest in sports. Courtside tickets typically range from $4,000 to $10,000 during the regular season, with playoff prices often rising to between $20,000 and $40,000 depending on the matchup.

Given the limited inventory and added perks, the Courtside Reserve seats are expected to sit at the top end of that scale. The team has also confirmed that these tickets will not be available for resale, ensuring the experience remains tightly controlled.

A legacy of spectacle meets a new era

From the Showtime era led by Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to the dominance of Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers have built their identity around more than just winning. The courtside experience itself has become part of the franchise’s mythology.

Now, with a new generation featuring LeBron James and Luka Doncic, the team is finding ways to evolve that tradition without losing its essence.

Whether this expansion becomes a long-term feature or remains a playoff-only offering, it signals a subtle shift. For the first time in decades, the Lakers are allowing more fans to sit within arm’s reach of the game’s biggest moments.
