After some time of uncertainty, the WNBA confirmed this Sunday, September 21, that Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson was named WNBA MVP for the 2025 season.
In this way and accumulating four awards, the 29-year-old star went down in history and became the first player in the league to achieve this number of MVPs. And congratulations did not take long to arrive.
A’ja gets love from NBA icon
With a total of 51 first-place votes from a panel of 72 voters, Wilson comfortably swept the voting for her award, beating out either Kelsey Mitchell of the Indiana Fever or Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx, two of the strongest candidates competing against her.
When the league announced that A’ja was chosen to receive the honor, social media erupted, “FOUR. EVER. THE. ONE. A surprise fit for history. A’ja Wilson adds to her legacy in unforgettable fashion,” wrote the WNBA’s official Instagram account, along with a video of the moment the star player received the happy news.
“The way even her teammates are emotional, she really deserves this, history has been made!” wrote one of her fans.
“She is the sweetest soul and deserves all the love, MVPS, and awards,” noted another.
“It’s an outstanding time to love women’s basketball because we get to see an absolute legend play, night in and night out!!!!! Congratulations!!!” commented another follower.
Not left out of the celebrations, however, was Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. Taking to his Instagram stories, he shared ESPN’s post and added: “4 piece chicken nugget!!!! AYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!” began King James and continued his message treating her as ‘sister’: “Congratulations sis @aja22wilson!!!! PROUD OF YOU!” wrote LBJ alongside emojis of brown hearts and celebrating hands.
The 29-year-old center had a standout season with the team and averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. Now, after eliminating Seattle Storm and advancing to the Playoff Semifinals, Wilson and the Aces prepare to face Indiana Fever this Sunday at Michelob ULTRA Arena in the first game of the best-of-five series.
