Kyrie Irving’s live stream reaction to old ‘quickie’ question is internet gold

It’s not every day an NBA star gets blindsided by a question from years ago. But when Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving stumbled across an old interview on a recent livestream, he couldn’t believe what he’d missed the first time around.

In the clip, a female reporter casually asks Irving if he “might have time for a quickie.” Without hesitation, he answered, “Yeah, that’s fine.” Back then, it didn’t even register with him. But watching it in 2025? Different story.

“Oh! Wait, what? Oh my god! Did she just ask me for a fing quickie? Oh nah… That was wild,” Irving blurted out mid-stream, eyes wide. “My PR team would be like, ‘Yo, what?’ Nah. No. We’re not doing this… This went completely over my fing head.” The chat exploded with laughing emojis as Irving shook his head in disbelief.

The Clip That Came Back to Life

The video first aired years ago and faded quietly into the background. That was until fans rediscovered it and started sharing it across X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, where it racked up thousands of views in hours. This isn’t new territory for Irving, whose career has been as full of viral moments as highlight-reel crossovers.

This offseason, he’s been especially active online, mixing basketball talk with unfiltered personal stories. Just last month, he told fans that his Brooklyn Nets run with Kevin Durant was “untouchable” in terms of chemistry: “The 7-Eleven duo will never be topped.”

On the court, Irving put up a solid 2024-25 season with 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. Still, the Mavericks fell short of the playoffs – something that’s fueling offseason conversations about how to get Dallas back into contention.

Kyrie Joins Shaq and Jimmy Butler in Viral Moments

Fans are comparing this resurfaced “Quickie” moment to other infamous NBA press conference slips. Shaquille O’Neal had a pun-laced answer in 2002 that resurfaced years later, while Jimmy Butler’s deadpan exchange in the 2020 Finals has been meme material ever since (USA Today, 2019; The Athletic, 2023).

For Irving, though, this isn’t about embarrassment – it’s about laughing at himself. “Certain things used to go over my head,” he admitted. “This was one of them.”

Given how quickly the internet is spreading it, the clip may become one of the most replayed interview moments in his career. And for fans, it’s a reminder that Kyrie Irving’s entertainment value doesn’t stop when the game clock hits zero.
