Caitlin Clark has become one of the most talked-about athletes in the country, a figure whose every action draws attention from fans, media, and fellow stars. And that very much includes the most powerful women around, such as Kylie Kelce.
The Indiana Fever guard’s ability to blend competitiveness with personality has made her a face of the WNBA, but it’s her authenticity that continues to set her apart.
That authenticity was on display last weekend in Indianapolis, when Clark and several of her Fever teammates were honored during the Indianapolis Colts’ home game.
Each player was presented with a customized Colts jersey for the occasion, a symbolic nod to the city’s rising basketball stars.
But while most of her teammates slipped into their new jerseys immediately, Clark chose not to wear hers. The move, though seemingly small, triggered a wave of conversation online.
Fans quickly linked her decision to her well-known loyalty to the Kansas City Chiefs, a team she’s supported long before turning pro.
A gesture that caught Kylie Kelce’s attention
Among those who noticed Clark’s choice was Kylie Kelce, wife of retired Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce.
On her Not Gonna Lie podcast, she applauded the WNBA star for staying true to her roots, saying the decision showed both respect and conviction.
“Speaking of the WNBA, I’ve just been given yet another reason to be a fan of Caitlin Clark,” Kylie said.
“Here’s the deal. Very kind of the Colts organization to give a customized jersey. This is customary. I’ve seen it happen to my husband many times.
“I co-signed this decision very hard. I think that Caitlin nailed this. I think that when you are raised a diehard fan of a team, this is the only appropriate response to being given a jersey of another team.”
Kelce went on to explain that her husband had faced similar situations throughout his career when visiting opposing stadiums.
In each instance, Jason Kelce politely declined to wear another team’s colors, not out of disrespect, but out of loyalty.
For Kylie, Clark’s gesture carried the same message: that allegiance matters. “It’s the kind of thing that shows authenticity,” she said. “She’s not pretending to be something she’s not.”
