Kylie Kelce is fed up with being called a WAG and the sexism attached to the term

Kylie Kelce has made it clear that she does not want to be defined by the term “WAG,” which refers to wives and girlfriends of athletes.

During her recent appearance on Call Her Daddy with Alex Cooper, Kelce opened up about why she dislikes the label, explaining that it carries negative connotations and often diminishes the individual accomplishments of women married to professional athletes.

The episode, titled Kylie Kelce: Stop Calling Me a WAG, covers various aspects of her life, but her comments on rejecting the stereotype have gained the most attention.

Despite being married to Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce, Kylie insists she has her own identity and purpose beyond being “Jason Kelce’s wife.”

Kylie Kelce on the Negative Connotations of ‘WAG’

Around the 10:20 mark of the episode, Cooper asked Kelce how she feels about the term. Without hesitation, she responded, “I don’t like it because I think it has a serious negative connotation attached.”

Kelce elaborated on why the label bothers her, stating that it often implies that a woman’s identity is completely overshadowed by her partner’s profession.

She explained that both she and Jason have intentionally worked to maintain their own individuality despite his high-profile career.

“I have made a serious effort to make sure that… both Jason and I have made a serious effort to make sure that while he was playing, that it was clear that that was his job,” she said.

“In the same way that someone would go to work and come home and not necessarily talk about their entire day. You’re filing taxes. You’re doing spreadsheets. Like, you’re not coming home and telling your spouse about, like, the spreadsheet you worked out.”

Kelce also pointed out that many women labeled as WAGs have their own ambitions, careers, and lives outside of their partners’ success. “Most of the so-called WAGs have their own independent lives,” she said. “They’re real humans with real lives and feelings.”

She also dismissed the stereotype that women marry professional athletes purely for financial gain. “It is that stigma of, you’re with them because they make a lot of money, or you want designer bags, or you live in a mansion,” she added.

Kylie Kelce on Travis and Taylor Swift’s Relationship

Later in the episode, Kylie briefly addressed how she and Jason first learned about her brother-in-law, Travis Kelce, dating Taylor Swift.

While the couple knew about the relationship before it became public, she shared that it was not a major topic of discussion within their family group chat.

Listeners interested in hearing more about her perspective on Travis and Taylor‘s relationship can find that discussion around the 55-minute mark of the episode.

Kelce‘s interview highlights her frustration with outdated labels that diminish women’s individual achievements. She continues to advocate for viewing women as independent figures, rather than solely as extensions of their athlete husbands.
