Kylie and Jason Kelce are making it clear-they’re not buying into the latest parenting fad, and they don’t care who disagrees. The NFL legend and his former field hockey star wife are putting their foot down when it comes to a growing trend: giving all kids presents on one child’s birthday to avoid feelings of exclusion.
Kylie, who is currently expecting the couple’s fourth daughter, shut down the idea during her recent podcast, calling it unnecessary and a participation trophy mentality. “I am vehemently against the idea of other kids getting birthday presents on a child’s birthday,” Kylie said.
“Our family knows-no one else is receiving a birthday present for Bennett’s birthday. Everyone gets a special day.” She doubled down on her stance, explaining why she and Jason refuse to cave to the trend.
“When your siblings get presents for your birthday, it reduces your birthday. It’s not their birthday. It’s your birthday,” she emphasized. “I think it teaches them to a degree that just because someone’s getting presents doesn’t mean you get presents. It feels very participation trophy-esque and not happening.”
Jason and Kylie keep it simple
The Kelces are already parents to Wyatt, 5, Elliotte, 3, and Bennett, 2, and with their fourth baby on the way, they’re making sure each child gets their own special moment. But that’s not the only strong opinion Kylie has when it comes to parenting. She also isn’t a fan of extravagant birthday parties for young kids.
“I am not a big fan of big birthdays for babies,” she admitted. “I feel like it’s just making more work for ourselves. I would much rather get a cake, give them a piece, and let them go in on it-which is exactly what we’ve done.”
Instead of lavish parties, Kylie and Jason keep it simple. “For the past couple birthdays, [we’ve] either decorated a cake to the specifications of the birthday girl or ordered one to make it special. We scroll Pinterest and Google to find ideas, and then we order it.”
Jason has two reasons to celebrate
While Kylie hasn’t revealed exactly when she’s due, her pregnancy appears to be timed perfectly to align with Jason’s new role as an ESPN analyst, ensuring he’s home more often.
With their firm stance on parenting, the Kelces are proving that even in the spotlight, they’re sticking to old-school values-whether the internet agrees or not!
