Kylian Mbappé also made his mark at the top of the soccer world. Not only with every team he plays for, but also with the French national team, where he was crowned world champion in 2018 and runner-up in 2022.

Now, ahead of the FIFA World Cup, the French striker scored two goals against Ukraine that not only secured his place in the tournament, but also led him to achieve a great record and surpass figures such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mbappe made history

The French national team beat Ukraine 4-0 in the World Cup qualifiers, with Kylian scoring two of those goals: one from a penalty and another in the 83rd minute. Michael Olise and Hugo Ekitike added the remaining two goals.

Thanks to this brace, at 26 years, 10 months, and 25 days, the French striker reached 400 goals as a professional according to Transfermarkt, becoming the youngest player to achieve this milestone.

In doing so, Mbappé leaves Lionel Messi (27 years, 3 months, and 3 days), Cristiano Ronaldo (28 years, 11 months, and one day), and Gerd Müller (27 years, two months, and 17 days) behind him.

As if that weren’t enough, with these two goals, Mbappé has now scored 55 goals in 94 games for the French national team and is two away from equaling Olivier Giroud’s 57 goals and three away from surpassing him to become the country’s all-time leading scorer.

His total goals are spread out between his time at AS Monaco, where he scored 27 goals, 256 with Paris Saint-Germain, 62 with Real Madrid, and 55 with the French national team.

After the victory, France moved into first place in Group D with 13 points. Iceland and Ukraine follow with 7 points, and Azerbaijan with 1 point.

The competition will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
