In a season where many are debating whether he can snatch the National League MVP from Shohei Ohtani, Kyle Schwarber continues to prove he’s a player who can change a franchise’s trajectory as games go by, hitting his 44th home run of the season in a game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Seattle Mariners.

A record for Kyle Schwarber in Philadelphia

The Phillies‘ designated hitter reached 44 home runs, setting a new franchise record by hitting a home run in 15 consecutive series.

Schwarber faced Seattle’s Bryce Miller in the bottom of the first inning, with one out and no runners on base. With the count against him at 1-2, he chased a high fastball out of the zone and sent it sailing out of the ballpark.

Schwarber reclaimed the National League home run lead with this blast, which marked a new record, and is now just three home runs shy of his personal best and the league leader, Cal Raleigh, who is also making his own case for the MVP.

The last team to contain the Phillies‘ slugger for an entire series was the Houston Astros, who limited Rob Thomson‘s team to just one run in a three-game series. In that series, Schwarber went 2-for-11 with one walk.
