Jake Paul is recovering after a challenging night in the ring against Anthony Joshua, revealing that he is experiencing significant pain following their December 19 bout.

The YouTuber-turned-professional boxer suffered a broken jaw and underwent surgery to repair the damage after Joshua delivered a one-punch knockout.

Sharing a candid update from his hospital bed, Paul posted a photo online with the caption, “Surgery went well thanks for all the love and support.”

He detailed the severity of his injuries, explaining that doctors had inserted “2 titanium plates on each side” and removed some teeth. He also mentioned that he would be restricted to a liquid diet for seven days, jokingly adding, “No @doghausdogs :(,” alongside a snapshot of his X-ray.

The extent of the injury became clear immediately after the fight, when Paul noticed he was spitting blood. “I think my jaw is broken,” he told reporters, according to the New York Post.

“It’s definitely broke. But that was a nice little ass-whooping from one of the best to ever do it.”

Despite the painful outcome, Paul expressed respect for Joshua, praising his skill and acknowledging the challenge of facing one of boxing’s top competitors.

Recovery and future plans

Even while sidelined, Paul is already thinking about his next steps in boxing. Posting a photo with Joshua in the ring, he wrote, “Great experience. I love this sport. Time to rest, recover and return to cruiserweight. Who do you want to see me fight?”

His comments suggest that, despite the severity of his injury, he is determined to continue competing and isn’t letting the defeat keep him from pursuing future bouts.

For Joshua, the fight marked a return to the ring after a 15-month hiatus following his loss to Daniel Dubois in an IBF heavyweight title match in September 2024.

According to sports analyst Ariel Helwani, Joshua already has another fight lined up, with talks of a bout against Tyson Fury scheduled for February 14. Rumors have also circulated about a possible rematch between Joshua and Paul in 2026, keeping fans speculating about the next chapter in this growing rivalry.

This fight adds to the trend of crossover boxing matches, where social media personalities and professional athletes collide in high-profile events. Despite the loss, Paul‘s determination to recover quickly and step back into the ring highlights his resilience and commitment to the sport.

Fans are now left eagerly anticipating both Joshua‘s upcoming heavyweight bout and Paul‘s potential return to cruiserweight action, with plenty of questions about who will face whom next.
