Kevin Stefanski speaks out about his future after Browns’ final 2025 game

The Cleveland Browns closed the 2025 regular season with a 20-18 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, but the postgame focus quickly veered toward something far bigger than Week 18 scores: Kevin Stefanski‘s uncertain future with the franchise.

In the immediate aftermath of the emotional win, Browns head coach Stefanski was repeatedly pressed about his job status heading into the offseason.

Instead of addressing the swirling speculation, Stefanski chose to keep the conversation centered on the team’s performance and the players who delivered the result on the field.

“This game’s not about me. I’m proud of that group,” Stefanski said when asked if he expects to return as Cleveland‘s head coach in 2026.

Stefanski‘s refusal to elaborate comes at a time when the Browns‘ decision on his future appears to be one of the organization’s most pressing unresolved questions.

After nearly six seasons at the helm, including two Coach of the Year honors, the coach’s overall body of work has taken on outsized significance amid a pair of disappointing campaigns.

Browns amid coaching crossroads

Cleveland finished the season with one of the league’s poorer records, a stark contrast to the flashes of success it showed earlier in Stefanski‘s tenure.

The coach led the franchise to multiple winning seasons and postseason appearances early in his run, and his calm leadership style was widely credited with stabilizing a historically volatile head-coaching carousel.

But in 2024 and 2025, results eroded. The Browns went more than two years without consistently finding an offensive rhythm and struggled to maintain defensive consistency, leading to just four wins in 2024 and only four in 2025 heading into the finale.

Those outcomes have fueled debate over whether a new direction might be necessary.

Despite that, Stefanski‘s accomplishments, particularly earning Coach of the Year twice, have given him a unique standing in franchise history.

Those accolades and the coach’s reputation around the league have led some analysts to suggest he would be a sought-after candidate for other jobs if Cleveland chooses to part ways.

Players rally around coach amid uncertainty

Inside the locker room, the reaction to Stefanski‘s non-answers was mixed but anchored in respect for what he has achieved.

Defensive leader Myles Garrett set a franchise sack record during the season, and his historic performance underscored that even amid struggles, moments of excellence remain.

Young quarterback Shedeur Sanders engineered the late, game-winning drive against the Bengals, a performance that shone a spotlight on a budding talent and offered a rare high note to the campaign.

Despite his own growing pains this season, the rookie’s composure late in the game suggested that key building blocks are present, even if the Browns‘ progress has lagged expectations.
