Kevin Stefanski set to ditch Browns’ Shedeur Sanders for more promising 2025 rookie QB

With only one game left in the 2025 season, just a handful of teams actually have something meaningful to play for in Week 18. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens will all play for a division title. Beyond that, there isn’t much left to iron out for the majority of NFL teams.

Week 18 presents an opportunity for teams to get a better look at younger players, which in turn gives those players a chance to impress. Once again, Shedeur Sanders will look to assert himself as a starting quarterback option for the Cleveland Browns going into the future. Aside from a blow-up performance against the Tennessee Titans, Sanders has struggled as a starter under head coach Kevin Stefanski‘s watch. But this past week, he led the Browns to a division win over the Steelers, so there’s a bit of momentum on the QB and head coach’s side.

There isn’t enough momentum, though, as it looks increasingly likely that Stefanski will be getting the boot from the Browns front office at the end of this season. With Cleveland expected to have a relatively high pick, and Deshaun Watson back in the fold, Sanders could once again be relegated to backup duties in 2026.

Kevin Stefanski an “ideal fit” for New York Giants and Jaxson Dart

Stefanski, on the other hand, looks primed to land back on his feet. He’s considered a top candidate for other head coach openings, including one with a fellow quarterback from Sanders’ draft class. ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler opined on Wednesday that Stefanski is an optimal candidate for the New York Giants.

The Giants, of course, are heading into 2026 with Jaxson Dart as the established franchise quarterback. They need a steady hand at head coach, ideally one with offensive prowess, to guide Dart into the future. Stefanski could certainly provide that, and it seems like the Giants don’t hold his Browns tenure against him.
