Kevin Stefanski declines to speculate on Shedeur Sanders becoming permanent starter

Now that the Shedeur Sanders’ situation is the main topic of conversation in the NFL, many questions arise about the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback room. However, Kevin Stefanski has refused to predict a long-term starting role for Sanders, even with fans increasingly calling for a shake-up.

According to Daniel Oyefusi, Cleveland Browns reporter for ESPN, Stefanski made his stance clear in a recent press conference. When asked whether Sanders could permanently overtake Dillon Gabriel under center, the coach replied:

I don’t think it’s fair to speculate … Dillon is committed to improving

A careful approach in an intense battle

Since his arrival, Sanders has generated buzz for his potential, pedigree, and flashes during his limited game time and practice action. But Stefanski is not ready yet to give him what he desires. That moment may come soon, though.

In fact, by this early October, the coach explicitly defined Sanders’ role as an “emergency quarterback,” emphasizing that he is still a secondary player for him, focusing on, perhaps, a careful development over a rushed promotion.

Stefanski said this situation will not change overnight, as Sanders is going through a process like everyone else:

All of our players … are working extremely hard

His strong trust on Gabriel

Despite some uneven performances from Gabriel, like against the New England Patriots, Stefanski reiterated his deep trust in him. “We’re going to stick with Dillon,” he told reporters after their recent defeat against the Ravens.

He knows and acknowledges the team’s offensive struggles but still suggested that change at quarterback is not an ordinary fix.

We have to play better as an offense … we’ll look at everything

This clearly represents that, for Stefanski, the quarterback room’s growth path is not determined by game results, it is also built in practice. At the end of the day, he is doing what he considers is best for the team.
