Much has been said about the possible retirement of LeBron James at the end of the 2025-26 NBA season. However, the player has not clearly stated that this would be his final run in the league.
On the contrary, the “King” has remained detached from everything related to his farewell from the court. It is said that if he does not continue with the Los Angeles Lakers, he could finish his professional career with the team where it all began, the Cleveland Cavaliers, which is also his hometown franchise.
Now, however, a fellow player has spoken out, suggesting that from his perspective and based on what he has witnessed firsthand, LeBron could remain at the highest level for several more years.
Kevin Durant speaks about LeBron James
The remarkable professionalism LeBron James brings to his training, and consequently to his games, makes him perform like a rookie despite the vast experience he has accumulated over 23 years in the NBA.
From Kevin Durant’s perspective, James still has plenty left in the tank to continue playing, at least for another four years, at the highest standards. He remains at an elite level and lacks nothing compared to younger players.
Against the Houston Rockets, his performance was simply spectacular:
- 30 points
- 13-14 field goals
- 34 minutes on the court
- 6 dunks
The admiration expressed by Durant toward James appears to be shared by many of his peers across the league. LeBron’s body is in extraordinary condition, making it clear that age is just a number when one takes proper care of it.
At 41 years old, LeBron became the first player in NBA history to score at least 30 points while shooting 90% from the field. With his performance against the Rockets, he recorded his fifth game with at least 30 points since January 13, 2026.
For Durant, James could still perform at the highest level even at 45 years old, continuing to extend his record as the oldest player to remain active in the league. Moreover, he is not merely present; he remains the central figure of his team, despite being surrounded by several other star players.
Although injuries prevented him from starting the season, the first time this has happened in 23 years, he has demonstrated that his body, despite taking longer to recover, is still ready for the challenges ahead and prepared for the postseason.
It seems that a 24th season may well be on the horizon.
