Kevin Durant makes clear one thing he hates and one thing he loves about NBA Cup

The NBA has undergone a fair amount of changes over the past couple of decades. The sport of basketball, in itself, has changed quite a bit with more of a reliance on perimeter shooting. In turn, the product on the court has become somewhat polarizing to fans. That has sparked the league to try new things.

That led to the creation of the NBA In-Season Tournament in 2023. Later rebranded as the NBA Cup, the tournament incorporates regular season games and gives them a competitive aspect. To differentiate NBA Cup games from other regular season games, teams switch up the design on their home courts. Not everyone loves the eccentric court designs. Others love it. And some are in the middle, like Kevin Durant.

What began as a discussion on the minimum games restriction for NBA awards evolved into discourse on the NBA Cup, in which Durant gave a surprising opinion on the courts themselves. He has a specific change in mind, but there’s one thing he loves about them: the trophy logo.

The decal in the middle of the court, as well as in the paint on both ends of the court, brings about more importance to the games. It reminds players of what they’re playing for, aside from extra earnings and wins in the standings. If Durant likes it, then surely other players do. But his point about the color of the courts shouldn’t be taken lightly either; the NBA would do well to tone it down just a touch.
