Kevin Durant is once again in the spotlight on social media. The new Houston Rockets forward has engaged in a war of words with several users who questioned his legacy and his way of relating to the fans.
The first confrontation came with a Jordan fan account (@AirJordans2323): “When did Michael Jordan ever bully a normal person in the real world like @KDTrey5? Not another professional athlete or rapper, but just an everyday person. When did MJ blow off an annoying fan like the overrated @KingJames? MJ is a man of the people,” the user wrote.
Durant, far from ignoring the message, responded: “Why are you stalking me?”. The same profile again attacked him with another comparison to Jordan, pointing out that the former Bulls player “didn’t waste time on social media”. Durant’s response was not long in coming: “I’ve tweeted from this place many times… one of those places that, if you know, you know. I recommend you get out of that MJ-inspired basement and get out and see the world.”
The discussion soon spread to other users. One fan accused him of being “insecure for proclaiming himself the best“, to which Durant replied that he never said that. The user then reminded him of a tweet he had posted months earlier: “In my mind, in my fantasy world of the NBA, I think I’m the best ever,” Durant had written in May.
The comparison with Kobe Bryant
Durant also waded into a debate about Kobe Bryant. User @jacobtheclipper claimed that, in any decisive scenario, “the ball always goes to Kobe,” and that therefore Kobe is a better scorer than Durant, sharing a video of the 2008 Olympic final against Spain.
Durant defended his own performance in that post: “Mamba is one of my idols, I love him, but I averaged at least 20 points per game in the gold medal games. In fact, I scored 30 points with Kobe on the court. History lessons are not a sign of insecurity, your decision to forget is! Have a nice day, Jacob.”
