The questions followed him back from Los Angeles. Kevin Durant did not spend much time on them.

At the Houston Rockets’ first practice after NBA All-Star Weekend, Durant addressed reports that an alleged burner account connected to him had surfaced online.

The account circulated widely on X during the league’s showcase event, with users claiming it was used to criticize current and former teammates.

Durant kept his response brief. No formal statement has been issued by Houston or the NBA, and there is currently no indication of a league investigation.

“I know you’ve got to ask these questions, but I’m not here to get into Twitter nonsense. I’m just here to focus on the season and keep pushing. My teammates know what it is…

Kevin Durant’s alleged burner account: A controversy that echoes the past

In 2017, while playing for the Golden State Warriors, Durant admitted to using alternate social media accounts after accidentally replying to a fan from one of them. The incident, first reported by ESPN, became a defining off-court chapter in his career.

Since then, Durant’s relationship with social media has remained closely watched. But the basketball context today is dramatically different.

Houston’s rise reshapes the narrative

The Rockets enter the post-All-Star stretch at 33-20, holding a top four seed in the Western Conference. Through 50 games, Durant is averaging 25.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 50.6 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from three.

The production places him firmly in elite company.

This season, Durant surpassed Wilt Chamberlain and Dirk Nowitzki on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. He now ranks sixth with 31,862 career points, according to official league statistics. Michael Jordan, at 32,292 points, is next.

What separates this season from previous years is team stability. Houston has shown improved defensive consistency and stronger late-game execution compared to earlier rebuilding campaigns. The Rockets are no longer developing prospects. They are competing for positioning.

Eyes on the postseason

Houston resumes play with road games against the Charlotte Hornets and New York Knicks before hosting the Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings. The Western Conference race remains tight, and seeding margins are slim.

For Durant, the priority is clear. Wins outweigh timelines. Standings matter more than speculation.

He has navigated social media storms before. This time, the bigger story may be unfolding in the box score.

Statistical data verified through official NBA records. Background on Durant’s prior burner account admission referenced from archived ESPN reporting and league coverage.
