Kevin Durant, freshly arrived in Houston following a record-setting seven-team trade, has quickly become the center of both the Rockets‘ championship plans and an online dispute involving a close friend of LeBron James.
The exchange highlights Durant‘s fiery presence on social media, even before training camp begins as his move to Houston positions him as the cornerstone of a team aiming to build around his scoring and the inside play of Alperen Sengun.
Yet while the Rockets prepare for a title push, Durant has remained active on X.com, formerly known as Twitter, engaging in a heated online exchange with Cuff The Legend, a known LeBron supporter.
Cuff publicly criticized Durant for arguing online with fans he labeled as “irrelevant to his basketball legacy.”
“You know i rock with you heavy scrap,” Cruff said via the social media platform. “But you do be on this app arguing with 437 pound obese men and other assorted nerds who never hooped on nobody’s basketball team in their damn life.
“No way they should be in your head like that.”
Durant responded sharply, dismissing his critics and poking fun at their obsession with LeBron, who is preparing for his own championship push with Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers..
“Sorry, Bums annoy me…,” Durant replied. “Your mental health is attached to LeBron James though, which is insane.
“Because you don’t hoop against him or nothing, your name is just cuffs…hahaha shit be wild in 2025.”
The exchange continued when Cuff attempted to downplay his interest in Durant’s activities, explaining he was merely attending a high-school football game.
“no place?,” Cuff retorted. “But nobody and i mean NOBODY literally watches every IG story on that i post like YOU!
“You are literally a FAN! man i’m at a HS football game watching some kids… leave me alone bruh,” Cuff wrote.
Durant maintained his teasing tone in reply: “I follow you cuffy, ima see your Ig stories hahaha…enjoy the game.”
Kevin Durant contract extension update: Latest on Rockets star
Amid the social media drama, the NBA landscape continues to shift around Durant and the Houston Rockets as the team has focused on developing a young core featuring Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., and Alperen Sengun while integrating Durant as the franchise centerpiece.
The Rockets’ recent moves signal an aggressive strategy to re-establish themselves as playoff contenders after several rebuilding seasons but Durant’s contract and long-term plans remain a key discussion point.
While currently with the Rockets, reports also link him to potential extension talks with the Phoenix Suns, highlighting his standing as one of the league’s premier talents. A contract extension would solidify a team’s foundation.
It would ensure veteran leadership and championship-caliber scoring remains central to their ambitions as for Houston, keeping Durant committed long-term would stabilize the roster, guide future acquisitions.
Will he pen his name along the dotted line, however? That remains to be seen with the deadline looming large at the exit of the 2025/26 NBA season.
