Kevin De Bruyne snubs MLS as Napoli make him a big offer

After all the talk, Kevin De Bruyne looks set to continue in Europe after announcing his departure from Manchester City. The Belgian midfielder has an offer from MLS, but at 33 years of age, De Bruyne is looking to choose Italy over the United States.

The MLS club that was most interested was Chicago Fire, with Inter Miami already interested. According to Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail, De Bruyne is expected to complete his move to Napoli in the next two weeks.

This would mean that the player would not play for Manchester City during the FIFA Club World Cup, despite having a contract that expires on June 30. Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto report that Napoli have offered De Bruyne a three-year contract.

De Bruyne would earn around $6.8 million in net salary in the first two years at Napoli, and in the third year he would earn around $5.6 million in net salary. Napoli are proposing a signing bonus of around $11.3 million per season, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

Why is De Bruyne attracted to Napoli?

The Belgian midfielder is currently 33 years old and will turn 34 on June 28. Despite his age, the player believes he still has what it takes to play in Europe, the top flight of football.

De Bruyne did not want to leave Manchester City this summer, but he was not offered a contract extension. Napoli just won Serie A in Italy yesterday with Antonio Conte. The new Italian champion will play in the Champions League next season, which reinforces the Belgian’s interest in signing for the club.

Mail Sport reported two weeks ago that De Bruyne’s wife, Michel Lacroix, was seen in Naples, and it was rumoured that she was house-hunting. Italy seems to be the destination of choice for De Bruyne and his family, as he married his wife in Sorrento, a town near Naples.
