When Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift dropped their engagement news on Instagram last month, fans of both the NFL and the pop superstar practically lit up the internet. The Chiefs tight end and the 14-time Grammy winner made it official with a playful caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
But while the post sent Swifties and Chiefs Kingdom into celebration mode, one person stayed noticeably quiet-Kelce’s longtime ex, Kayla Nicole.
Nicole, who dated Kelce from 2017 to 2022, was stopped by the Daily Mail during her appearance at the House of Champion event in Los Angeles. When asked if she had anything to say about the engagement, Nicole quickly side-stepped: “Oh, no, no, no. But I’m really happy to be here at Champion, though!”
Keeping the focus forward
Nicole’s brief answer was less about her ex and more about her own spotlight. A model, sports broadcaster, and influencer with more than 846,000 Instagram followers, she’s built her own brand over the past few years. And if her reaction is any clue, she isn’t looking back.
Meanwhile, Kelce and Swift have been very much in the public eye since going public in September 2023. Swift’s first trip to Arrowhead for the Chiefs’ win over the Bears launched one of pop culture’s most-watched relationships. From there, she became a regular at Chiefs games, including back-to-back Super Bowl runs.
Kelce returned the favor, attending multiple Eras Tour stops around the globe. He even appeared on stage at Swift’s London concert in June 2024. Earlier this year, Swift announced her next album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Kelce’s New Heights podcast.
Engagement news meets NFL grind
The couple’s engagement, revealed on August 26, 2025, comes as Kelce and the Chiefs grind through another NFL season. Wedding planning will have to wait until after the playoffs, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating about when and where the big day will happen.
Nicole, though, isn’t joining that conversation. After her high-profile split with Kelce, she’s kept her public comments to a minimum. In 2023, she posted a viral open letter on Instagram urging women not to “lose themselves” in relationships -a post many linked to her time with Kelce.
This week’s dodge was another reminder: she’s content letting Swift and Kelce own the headlines, while she stays focused on her own lane.
