The Kansas City Chiefs may not play in Kansasever. The franchise, led by Patrick Mahomes, plays at Arrowhead Stadium, which is located in Missouri. However, the state of Kansas is trying to lure the team to relocate to their territory.

This Monday, Kansas legislative leaders decided to give the Kansas City Chiefs an extra year to reach a deal with the state on a potential new stadium, according to WIBW.com.

Major decision for the Chiefs in the making

This gives the Chiefs full leverage to assess one offer against the other. Kansas vs. Missouri for one of the best franchises in NFL history.

Over in Missouri, lawmakers have fully approved stadium incentives designed to maintain the team in their territory.

According to Mike Florio of NBC Pro Football: “For now, Kansas wants it badly enough to move the prior deadline by an entire year, knowing full well that, in the end, the Chiefs could simply be using Kansas to get the best possible deal from Missouri.”

“Beyond playing one governmental partner against the other, the Chiefs at some point will have to decide between a renovated Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri or a new, domed stadium in Kansas – which could come with hosting a Super Bowl,” he added.

Most likely, the Chiefs already know the city they want to play in, but it’s a perfect situation to squeeze every single penny out of either state and maybe host another Super Bowl like Florio said.

For now, the Chiefs will be playing at Arrowhead Stadium until at least January 2031.
