The Chicago Sky‘s frontcourt tandem of Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese took the WNBA by storm in 2024.
The two rookies, both highly touted prospects out of college, gave Chicago a dynamic presence in the paint, keeping the team competitive throughout the season.
Yet, as the 2025 season approaches, Cardoso‘s latest comments are raising eyebrows-especially among fans of her teammate.
Cardoso, who helped lead South Carolina to a national title with a win over Caitlin Clark and Iowa before going No.3 in the WNBA Draft, appeared in a media day interview with NBA Brazil.
Speaking in Portuguese, she was asked to name the most promising player in the league besides herself.
Her answer? “Caitlin Clark.”
The response was quickly translated and shared across social media, with many fans noting what seemed to be a surprising snub of her Sky teammate Angel Reese.
Clark, who was taken No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever, had faced off against Cardoso and Reese multiple times in 2024-including a thrilling four-game series where Clark and the Fever won three times.
Despite the rivalry, Cardoso had high praise for the opposing guard, even as Clark torched teams across the league in her All-WNBA rookie season.
Cardoso respects Clark, but still values her Sky bond
Cardoso‘s recognition of Clark didn’t go without some balance. She did name Angel Reese as her “most famous contact” when asked in the same interview, acknowledging their strong bond off the court.
Still, fans couldn’t help but notice the weight of her “most promising” label-especially considering Reese‘s impressive rookie campaign, where she averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game.
Cardoso also had a solid debut season, putting up 9.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game, primarily focusing on her defensive prowess in the paint.
One of her best performances came in a win over Clark‘s Fever on June 6, when she dropped 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting with 10 rebounds.
The Sky will have a chance to reignite the rivalry on May 17, when they open their 2025 regular season on the road against the Fever at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
While fans debate the implications of Cardoso‘s comment, one thing’s clear-both she and Reese will have their chance to make statements on the court very soon.
