Kai Trump leaned on advice from Tiger Woods and her grandfather Donald Trump during her LPGA Tour debut at The Annika, using their guidance to manage nerves and focus on her performance despite her inexperience at the professional level.

Trump shot 13-over-par in the first round, including nine bogeys and two double bogeys, but recorded four birdies in the second round. Despite the score, she highlighted the value of learning from experience and observing professional standards firsthand.

“I was definitely really nervous,” Trump said. “When I went out there today I felt very calm and peaceful to be honest with you. That’s why I played better.

“I was definitely more nervous than I expected, but I thought I hit a lot of great shots out there. I hit a lot of good shots just to the wrong spots.

“Being my first LPGA event, now I kind of know how it goes. I felt a little out of order in the beginning but I kind of got it going afterwards. I learned a lot. It was amazing.

“I had a great time out there. I didn’t play the way I wanted obviously, but I think I played pretty well.”

Trump credited her grandfather Donald’s advice for helping her remain relaxed and also added that Tiger, a 15-time majors winner, also offered guidance, highlighting both technique and mental approach.

“He told me to go out there and have fun and just go with the flow,” Kai said of Donald. “Whatever happens, happens.

“He is the best golfer in the entire world. I would say that. And an even better person.

“He told me to go out there and have fun and just go with the flow.”

Finishing her rounds with a smile, Trump signed autographs for fans, showing poise and sportsmanship. As a high school senior committed to the University of Miami, she gained experience that will inform her college career and future competitions.

Kai Trump struggles on LPGA debut

Trump ended her first LPGA round at The Annika 13-over par, placing last. She recorded two double bogeys and nine bogeys in her opening round, showing the challenges of adjusting to the pace, precision, and mental demands of professional golf.

Trump has only competed in three events this year and is ranked 461st in the American Junior Golf Association. She earned a sponsor’s exemption to The Annika, reflecting her potential as an emerging talent and her prominence in the sport.

In the end Trump was 18 over par overall. Despite the score, Trump expressed pride in competing as the youngest participant in the field.

“I honestly just prepared,” Kai continued. “I did everything I could possibly have done for this tournament.

“If you prepare right the nerves can-they’re always going to be there, but they can be softened.”

The LPGA noted that Trump’s social media presence is introducing golf to younger audiences. With over six million followers and a growing lifestyle brand, she is helping expand the reach of the sport beyond traditional professional golf fans.
